About BellaBeez

I created BellaBeez to reflect my passion for the environment. My bees are donated with the goal of simultaneously comforting and educating children in Inova Loudoun Hospital's Child Life Center. Each bee is used to familiarize children with the positive impact bees have on ecosystems and biodiversity. Bellabeez received positive feedback from staff, patients, and parents on Inova Loudon's Facebook page. With the help of Michael's Craft Store in Sterling Virginia, I've crocheted over 100 bees for Inova Loudon Hospital's Child Life Center. That's over 200 hours of crocheting bees, while balancing school, a part time job, and sports.

Bees have been facing harsher population loss in recent years. Not only have pesticides and climate change affected populations, but consumerism has also forced bee populations into new challenges. Many developed countries have demand for certain vegetation year-round, despite whether or not they're in season. Additionally, large agricultural industries need to keep their production up to meet demand from consumers. Both these situations introduce the new concept of migratory beekeeping, also known as forcibly migrating bees. During these forced migrations, thousands of bees are killed in the process. Their declining population is a serious issue that many people don't understand the scope of. Losing pollinators increases the risk of food shortage and lowers crop production. Both these factors contribute to the rising levels of hunger around the world.

About Me

I'm an incoming freshman at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA. I'll be studying environmental science, with a concentration in ecological restoration and horticulture; as well as, minoring in data science. In high school, I maintained a 3.91 GPA and graduated in the top quarter of my class. During the summer of 2023, I've completed an internship at Piedmont Environmental Council's Community Farm. While there, I learned about the science behind agriculture and sustainable farming practices. As a part of my internship, I started a nutrition card project that encourages low-income households to eat more fruits and vegetables. In my free time I enjoy being outdoors, going to concerts, reading, and spending time with my family and friends.
